Scoliosis

Scoliosis is defined as an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine that most often manifests itself in adolescence and affects twice as many girls as boys. If left untreated, it can cause deformity and serious medical complications such as heart or lung disease. Most cases are of unknown origin, while other cases are known to run in families and to be genetic in nature. Other known causes include neuromuscular conditions, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy. Most cases of unknown origin develop during adolescence but it can also occur in younger children and infants as well as adults.
