Ancient Virus Protein Linked to Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's and Epilepsy Linked with Depression

"Syncytin, a virus protein that has been around for millions of years, may play a role in the nerve damage that occurs with multiple sclerosis (MS), scientists report in the journal Nature Neuroscience."

"Patients with chronic brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease and epilepsy have an unusually high rate of depression, too -- suggesting links between the conditions."
