A California consumer legal group is campaigning to require warning labels on potato chips, saying they contain a chemical (acrylamides) known to cause cancer and state law requires the warnings. (Reuters)

In 2002, Health Canada alerted Canadians to the presence of acrylamide in some foods, following reports by scientists in Sweden. Since then, Health Canada scientists have participated in international research efforts aimed at understanding how acrylamide is formed in foods and the health implications. (News-Medical.net)

Acrylamides, a family of chemicals recently found in cooked foods that is known to cause cancer in rats, pose little threat to humans, an expert panel has reported.
People do not eat enough of the chemicals in their daily diet to risk the genetic damage that can lead to cancer, the committee of experts said. (ABC.net.au)
