Depression Overview

Depression is a common mental condition. It can affect anybody, regardless of sex or age, financial situation, or other life circumstances. People with seemingly perfect lives can suffer from depression just as easily as those with many problems. It is often a chemical imbalance in the brain that is not affected by outside circumstances.

Researchers have learned a lot about depression in recent years, how it affects the brain, and how it can be treated. Depending upon the severity of the depression, medication and/or therapy may be used. Only a doctor can diagnose clinical depression, so it is important to see a doctor if you have been feeling depressed for more than a few weeks.
