Overview

Cervical Cancer is the second most prevalent type of cancer among women around the world. It involves cancer of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects the uterus to the vagina. Cancer of the cervix often develops slowly over many years, beginning in the lining of the cervix.

Many cases of cervical cancer are caused by the HPV virus. It can often be caught early with regular Pap smears that check for pre-cancerous cells. Gardasil, the HPV vaccine, is the latest weapon in the war against cervical cancer, though it does not work against all forms of HPV.
